
Dr Andrew Silaev is a highly qualified clinician with a unique dual background in Occupational Therapy and Medicine, bringing a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to hand therapy. He completed his Occupational Therapy degree at Deakin University in Geelong and went on to undertake advanced training in Hand Therapy in Melbourne, working alongside some of the world’s leading hand surgeons and therapists. He went on to complete his Medical Degree at Deakin University once he was established as a hand therapist. Currently serving as the Director of Hand Therapy Services, Dr Silaev is also a Medical Doctor at Barwon Health, where he is pursuing a career in Hand Surgery. His combined expertise enables him to bridge the gap between surgical and rehabilitative care, ensuring optimal outcomes for his patients. In his role as director, Andrew oversees our junior clinician development. Dr Silaev holds academic appointments at both Deakin University and La Trobe University, where he contributes to the training and development of future clinicians. He is also an active researcher, with a particular focus on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), and presents at local and national conferences in hand therapy, occupational therapy, and allied health.

While he has a special interest in complex cases, he is skilled across all aspects of hand therapy. Outside of his professional life, Dr Silaev enjoys running, surfing and anything outdoors, and brings the same energy and dedication to his personal pursuits as he does to his clinical work.
